Greece Partners

Piste is a partnership between universities from different European countries.

The PISTE project is based on a partnership among eight actors with different backgrounds and from four Member States. It involves three academic institutions, one NGO and four municipalities, one for each field, mobilising research to inform actual practices at the local level.

Voios

Voio (18,000 inhabitants) is a mountain town in the Kozani regional unit in Northern Greece. Like other towns in the area, it is home to many asylum seekers and migrants, due to its proximity to the state’s land borders. In Voio, there is also shelter for unaccompanied minor asylum seekers, where also an intercultural school for children of the migrant community in the region is located.

HumanRights360

Human Rights 360 is a civil society organisation established in Greece, that aims to protect and empower the rights of all with no discrimination, but with special focus on the most disadvantaged and vulnerable populations. It is part of the worldwide human rights movement that is struggling for a world where fundamental human rights are enjoyed by all. HumanRights360 aims to put together greater alliances in Greece and internationally to work in order to build vibrant and tolerant societies.
Team Member
Alekos Anastasiou

Alekos Anastasiou works as a Social Services coordinator at HumanRights360. He holds a B.A in Business Management from Hellenic College Holy Cross and a MSW in Community Organization and Social Planning from Boston College Graduate School of Social Work. He has worked in the refugee field since 2003, organizing and coordinating Social Service Units, drafting/ managing numerous Greek and European projects. He has participated in research and policy development projects on UAM’s, SGBV, the Dublin Regulation, the Reception and Return Directive, Access to health and has participated as a trainer on setting up reception and integration services for A/S and Refugees in Greece and abroad. He works on Work Packages 3, 4 and 5 of the PISTE project.

Nikoletta Aranitoudi

Nikoletta Arvanitoudi works as a Legal Expert at HumanRights360 since 2018 and is the focal point of the PISTE program. She has also worked as a team leader for the program ‘Legal aid to unaccompanied and separated minors’, run at Evros region by HumanRights360. She has studied Law and has completed her postgraduate studies in Law at DUTH (GR) and at the University of Glasgow (UK). She practices Law in Alexandroupolis town since 2010 and she is a member of the Registry of the Greek Asylum Service for Lawyers, of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum, providing legal aid to asylum seekers, in the frame of the administrative procedure at the second instance upon the Appeal Authorities. She is a substitute member in the Naturalization Committee of the Directorate of Citizenship of Eastern Macedonia Thrace, under the auspices of the National Commission for Human Rights. She had been a member of the Municipal Committee for Gender Equality of the Municipality of Alexandroupolis town. She has worked as a Child Protection Lawyer at the mobile unit of Arsis, providing legal support to unaccompanied and separated minors, who were under protection custody at the RIC of Fylakio. She has, also, worked as a Lawyer at the Greek Council for Refugees, under the auspices of the UNHCR, at the program Free Legal Aid, providing legal support to asylum seekers and vulnerable groups at the RAO of Thrace.

Eleni Zacharopoulou

Eleni Zacharopoulou has been working as a Communication specialist with HumanRights360 since January 2021. She is in charge of the communication of the EEA Grants programmes ‘Local Development and Poverty Reduction’ and ‘Asylum and Migration’, AMIF-funded PISTE Project and EPIM ‘Bridges to the Future’ Project. She has a strong educational background in Sociology (Bachelor) and in Education and Human Rights (MA) and has long working experience (since 2008) in communications, project management and fundraising in Civil Society sector. She has also a demonstrated ability in raising awareness campaigns, community engagement, events management and productions, as well as an established network of contacts in various NGOs, and media in Greece. She is also a photographer and storyteller.

Eleni Takou (former member)
Eleni Takou (she/her) is Deputy Director and Head of Advocacy of the HumanRights360. She has studied communication, political science and political philosophy in Athens and Paris. She has worked in Advocacy and Programs sector of several NGOs. During 2015, she has served as Chief of Staff of the Minister for Migration Policy. Also, she has been coordinating the Racist Violence Recording Network. She has also been a consultant on issues of statelessness for UNHCR Greece. Her work is focused on refugee protection, migration, citizenship and anti-racism advocacy. She has been a member of the writing team of the Annual Yearbooks of Legislation and Jurisprudence on Migrants and Refugees (ed. Savvalas), until 2015. She is co-writer of the book Immigration in Greece. Eleven myths and more facts, published by the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation. She is in the steering committee of the PISTE project and is working on Work Packages 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Sebene Eshete (former member)
Sebene Eshete (she/her) works as a Policy Officer in HumanRights360. She holds an MA in Public Policy from the Central European University, an M.Sc. in Environment and Development from the National Technical University of Athens, and a BA in International and European Studies from the University of Piraeus. She is also a Landecker Democracy Fellow. She has done advocacy work around the right to citizenship/legal residence, on equal treatment, a get-out-the-vote campaign, and the rights of migrant land workers. She is contributor of the book Immigrants, Asylum Seekers and Refugees in Times of Crises: B. An International Handbook on Migration, Asylum, Social Integration and Exclusion (EPLO). She works on Work Packages 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the PISTE project.
